47-Year-Old Man Admits To Raping 14-Year-Old Girl

News / Virgin Islands / March 27, 2018

ST. Thomas — A St. Thomas man was arrested after allegedly raping a 14-year-old girl in February, V.I.P.D. Public Information Officer Glen Dratte has announced.

Mr. Dratte said that on March 22, a complainant contacted the 911 emergency call center and reported that a 14-year-old minor had been raped. The complainant said the victim broke down with emotion and said that she was raped about a month ago by an adult male.

According to the report, at about 1:00 p.m. on Saturday, March 24, 47-year-old Osvaldo M. Tavarez, above, was summoned to the V.I.P.D.’s Criminal Investigation Bureau, where he was advised of his constitutional rights, which police say he waived. Following the waiving of rights, Mr. Dratte said Mr. Tavarez admitted to having sexual intercourse with the 14-year-old minor.

He was charged with first-degree aggravated rape, and was remanded to the Bureau of Corrections pending his advisement hearing.
