ST. THOMAS — Police on Monday morning arrested 33-year-old Kishawn Heliger on two assault-related charges, after his ex-girlfriend reported to police that he had assaulted her earlier in the day, V.I.P.D. Public Information Officer Glen Dratte has announced.

According to Mr. Dratte, citing a police report, police were dispatched to Bunker Hill in St. Thomas at 12:10 a.m. on Monday in regards to a female who said she was assaulted. Upon the officers’ arrival, contact was made with the female victim, who told police that her ex-lover assaulted and levied gun threats against her. The victim suffered several abrasions to her neck and face, Mr. Dratte said.

Later the same day at about 6:30 a.m., Mr. Heliger, who had left the scene, returned to the area. He was advised of his rights but waived them and chose to be interviewed by police, Mr. Dratte said. He was then charged with third-degree assault and brandishing and exhibiting a firearm, and was remanded to the Bureau of Corrections pending his advisement hearing.
