Orlando Octave, Asa Bantan And Destra To Perform Friday Night At Festival Village

Culture / Entertainment / Virgin Islands / January 11, 2018

ST. CROIX — St. Croix Festival Committee Chairman Davidson Charlemagne on Thursday confirmed to The Consortium that not only will Destra and Asa Bantan — two respected names in Soca and Bouyon music — be performing on Friday night, they will be joined by another hitmaker, Orlando Octave, known for his smash hit “Single“, among other chart-topping tracks.

Mr. Charlemagne said he was going the extra mile to assure that St. Croix residents and visitors still here fully enjoy themselves, following an unfortunate incident at the Village on Saturday night that ended with a 31-year-old man losing his life to gun violence. Mr. Charlemagne also said that the extra two days of festivities will help booth owners recoup the funds they lost when last Saturday’s Festival Village was cut short.

Law enforcement is promising maximum security. Police Commissioner Delroy Richards said Friday and Saturday would see strong police presence through a “special plan” that was being devised by the force. “We are going to put into effect a special plan for this two-day activity,” the commissioner said. “Like I said, it was unfortunate on Saturday, [but] for the information for the media, I just want you to know that the perpetrators for the events that occurred on Saturday night were arrested.”

“We will continue to do what we must do to ensure the safety of the folks in this community,” Mr. Richards added. “We really, really had some good days prior to this incident. We provided the coverage that we believe was necessary to ensure the safety of the people in the community and we will continue to do that. Friday and Saturday we will be out, and we will ensure to the best of our ability that folks go out and continue to enjoy themselves for the next few days.”

Mr. Charlemagne said the two-day affair will start at 7:00 p.m. sharp each night and end at midnight. While Destra, Asa Bantan and Orlando Octave will headline Friday, Ricky T and Vio International are the two acts confirmed for the Saturday night show.

I wear many hats, I suppose, but the one which fits me best would be journalism, second to that would be radio personality, thirdly singer/songwriter and down the line. I've been the Editor-In-Chief at my videogames website, Gamesthirst, for over 5 years, writing over 7,000 articles and more than 2 million words. I'm also very passionate about where I live, the United States Virgin Islands, and I'm intent on making it a better place by being resourceful and keeping our leaders honest. VI Consortium was birthed out of said desire, hopefully my efforts bear fruit. Reach me at [email protected].
