Crucian Christmas Festival Is A Go; ‘Stress Reliever’ Events To Be Held On St. Thomas And St. John

ST. CROIX — There was little doubt that the Crucian Christmas Festival would be held this year, as many saw the event as an important stress reliever following Hurricanes Irma and Maria’s widespread destruction to the territory. But Governor Kenneth Mapp confirmed the event at his Friday evening press briefing nonetheless, which he said will include events in St. Thomas and St. John.

The Crucian Christmas Festival happens between Dec. 22 and Jan. 6, and will see a new genre of music being added to the Festival Village concerts: Gospel, according to the governor.

Mr. Mapp’s office will work with the Festival Committee on ideas. Among them is having a “Crucian Festival” night on St. Thomas and St. John as entertainment relief. There will be complimentary $2 drinks, hot dogs and burgers, Mr. Mapp said.

The Consortium, as was the case last year, will carry the activities live, including the Village nights, J’ouvert Morning and the parades.
