ST. THOMAS — Governor Kenneth Mapp is once again calling on residents and visitors on this island to support the Children’s Parade, which takes place on Friday.
Last year, the territory’s leader said he was pleased to see a strong turnout — at least in the Carnival Square where all main performances traditionally take place — for the Children’s Parade, which has struggled with attendance in recent years.
This year, Mr. Mapp said he was especially delighted that Lt. Governor Osbert Potter succeeded in getting horse owners and the Virgin Islands Carnival Committee to schedule the races on Thursday of Carnival week, to eliminate a longstanding conflict with the Children’s Parade.
“I look forward to Friday being dedicated to the Children’s Parade,” he said, adding that, “Lt. Governor Potter has put a great deal of effort into highlighting the Children’s Parade, which is my favorite event.”
Village activities will continue into Saturday. J’ouvert Morning starts at 4:00 a.m. on Thursday, followed by the Children’s and Adults Parade events Friday and Saturday respectively.
