Department of Labor (D.O.L.) Commissioner Catherine Henry on Wednesday announced that D.O.L. has begun accepting and processing Summer Youth Employment applications for the 2017 Summer Youth Work Experience and Training Program.
According to the release, while applications continue to be received throughout the year for other programs and activities, youth are strongly encouraged to submit their applications for summer experiences by June 16.
Youths between the ages 14 to 25 are invited to register for the approximately 650 available slots; 14 & 15-year-old youths are eligible for the Career Exploration program.
Applications may be obtained as well as submitted electronically through the department’s website here. Applicants can also be picked up at any D.O.L. office locations on St. Croix and St. Thomas. St. John residents may pick up registration forms at the St. John Administrator’s Office.
A summer employment fact sheet is also available online, providing additional information for participants and parents. This summer, priority will be given to individuals who submit completed applications accompanied with supporting documents, and have not previously participated in a work experience and are high school juniors and seniors, or are out-of-school/unemployed or dislocated youth.
Youths under the age of 18 should be accompanied by a parent/guardian to sign authorization for participation in the program, D.O.L. says. All applicants should be prepared to provide 1) proof of their educational and legal residency status; 2) proof of enrollment in college, high school, 3) evidence of a social security card; and 4) photo ID and copy of a resume if available.
