Wine In The Hangar: St. Croix Foundation Takes Guests On Assimilated Travel Experience

Culinary / Entertainment / News / Virgin Islands / April 9, 2017

ST. CROIX — Attendees of the Food and Wine tasting experience, The St. Croix Foundation event known as Wine at the Warehouse, had a uniquely assimilated travel experience worth talking about. This time around the Bohlke International Airways hangar was transformed into a destination experience, complete with fake passports given upon entrance into the hangar, as a pass to attendees of the fundraiser to travel the world and allow their taste buds to explore various wines from across the globe.

While sipping on wines, attendees toured different private jets; they also had the opportunity to take photos near and on the planes.

In previous years the wine tastings were held at Bellows International, but this year The St. Croix Foundation gave the event a twist by choosing the Bohlke hangar as the location, to help legitimize the travel theme.

Some servers were dressed in complete flight attendant attire as they served various wines. To accompany the wines being tasted, there was an array of appetizers, desserts and salads. A chef was also on site serving fresh pasta, which paired the wine tasting experience perfectly.

The Department of Tourism and Southern Glazer’s Wine & Spirits were the event’s platinum sponsors. ViewFort was the diamond sponsor, and Crucian Point came in as the gold partner. Silver partners included The Buccaneer, Bohlke International Airways, Jim & Connie Arena, TEAM Consultants, balter and St. Croix Tourism. Bronzes partners were Banco Popular, Catamaran Quest, St. Croix MRI, Cape Air, My Dash St. Croix, Marshall & Sterling and the Carambola Beach Resort and Spa.

Below, some pictures of the Wine at the Warehouse experience, part of the foundation’s weeklong Food and Wine Experience, which is held annually.

Established in 1990, the foundation was created to respond to the damage wrought by Hurricane Hugo in 1989. With 90 percent of structures destroyed and infrastructure devastated, the foundation’s founders believed that the arduous task of rebuilding demanded immediate leadership, and that a community foundation would provide the most flexibility to address the challenges the USVI faced, according to the foundation’s website.
