ST. CROIX — The suspect who admitted to stabbing a man in the chest at the Vegetable Market in Estate La Reine on Tuesday afternoon, was charged with first-degree murder, third-degree assault and possession of a dangerous weapon, V.I.P.D. Public Information Officer Glen Dratte announced late Tuesday.
The suspect, identified as 60-year-old Francis “Ducky” Vanterpool, above, killed the man who he said had attacked him, 49-year-old Findlay Collymore, after stabbing him in the chest with a broken bottle.
Mr. Vanterpool told police that Mr. Collymore struck him with a two-by-four piece of wood, which Mr. Vanterpool said prompted him to defend himself by breaking a bottle and stabbing Mr. Collymore in the chest.
Both men then ran to the nearby Ann Schrader Command Police Station, however Mr. Collymore expired in the middle of the road near the police station’s entrance.
Unable to make bail of $1 million, Mr. Vanterpool was remanded to the Golden Grove Detention Center pending his advise-of-rights hearing, set for today.
