GERS Announces Delay In Retirment Payments; Direct Deposits Not Completely Affected

News / Virgin Islands / March 29, 2017

The Government Employees Retirement System announced on Wednesday that there will be a delay in payment for retirees receiving their retirement payment via check.

Retirees who receive their payment via ACH/Direct Deposit should not experience a delay, GERS said, but may see a discrepancy in their payment, which GERS says will be adjusted in the following payroll.

The Consortium reached out to the pension system three times for clarification on the matter, specifically asking when would the problem be rectified — which GERS said was due to “technical difficulties currently being experienced with the check processing system.” However, no response was returned at time of writing. The delay will also prevent retirees from accessing their check stubs online via www.usvigers.com.

The pension system further stated in its release that retirees who submitted adjustments to be effective pay date March 30, 2017 will not see those changes until pay date April 12, 2017. Net pay will therefore be the same as March 15, 2017.

GERS said it would attempt to fix the issue “as soon as possible,” and apologized for any inconvenience caused by the delay.
