The V.I.P.D.’s strategy of creating high visibility by placing patrol vehicles in areas known to have a high rate of gunshots, was credited as a major factor in the reported reduction of celebratory New Year’s Eve gunshots, according to Senator Novelle Francis, who commended the force for its work.
Senators Kurt Vialet and Neville James, the outgoing Senate president, also commended the force, according to Mr. Francis.
“I hope that everyone who believes that gunfire is needed to welcome in the New Year took notice that the VIPD was ready and prepared to swiftly take action,” Mr. Francis said. “For too long, our New Year’s Day celebrations have been marred by the irresponsible discharge of gunfire. It has made people afraid to go out and participate in New Year’s festivities or partake in local traditions. I am proud to see the VIPD’s commitment to restore safety and peace to the community on New Year’s Eve.”
Mr. Francis, James and Vialet encouraged the community to continue supporting the V.I.P.D.
