Accident Near Tide Village Leaves Parts Of East End Without Power, viNGN Customers Without Internet

ST. CROIX — A vehicular accident on Centerline Road (Queen Mary Highway) near Tide Village on the east of St. Croix late Friday left most residents in the area without power, and forced the Virgin Islands Police Department to temporary cut off traffic traveling west to east from the Seaside Supermarket in Gallows Bay, and east to west from the East Way Service Station near the Pearl B. Larsen Elementary school, according to Police Officer Arthur Joseph, who was on the scene guiding traffic.

According to Mr. Joseph, the accident occurred just before 5:00 p.m. today, and included a woman and two children, who were traveling in a red Suzuki Rodeo when it lost control and slammed into a Virgin Islands Water and Power Authority electric pole.

Residents looking to travel west were to take the left road up Tide Village to the south shore, according Mr. Joseph. Those looking to travel east would have to travel back to Beeston Hill and head south. Police blocked traffic on both ends of the road to allow WAPA and viNGN employees to get their service back in operation. Mr. Joseph said the road would remain blocked for about 2 1/2 hours.

The victims of the accident all survived, but they were transported to the hospital for medical care, the officer said. Power in some affected areas was restored about 5:30 p.m.
