Gittens Bids Farewell: ‘Life Does Not End Here’

ST. CROIX — Senator Kenneth L. Gittens through a press release on Wednesday thanked the people of of the Virgin Islands and specifically those on St. Croix who gave him the opportunity to serve two consecutive terms. He said while the parting is bitter sweet, he feels content that while in office, he worked hard for the people of the Virgin Islands.

“I want to thank everyone for their support and confidence in me over the past four years. I worked hard for my community and the Virgin Islands on a whole in order to address some pressing issues; some that others would not touch,” Mr. Gittens said. “My staff and I worked hard on a number of legislations geared toward improving the quality of life for everyone and for generations to come. My disappointment is for those bill drafts that did not make it through the process.”

According to Mr. Gittens, there is much more work to be done, but the voters have spoken that he should no longer be a carrier of the torch. “We have accomplished a lot, through my sponsored legislations and community outreach but there is no doubt that there is more work to be done. I congratulate all of the returning senators and those newly elected and I urge them to continue working in the best interest of the people and do not get caught up with personalities and dishonesty; always keep the community’s best interest at heart. These are very crucial times in our community and it will be up to you to stay the course,” he said.

Mr. Gittens concluded by saying that he is preparing to move on from this chapter of his professional life and prays that he will continue to be led on being influential in his community and the world wherever he goes.

“Life does not end here. My mom always said, ‘in every disappointment there’s a blessing and when one door closes another opens’. So, I’ll continue to trust God for my next challenge and next journey,” he said.

He also wished everyone a safe and Happy Thanksgiving Season and reminded them to always be grateful and thankful for what they have because there are others who are less fortunate.
