Police Arrest, Charge Man Accused Of Burning Ex-Girlfriend’s Police-Issued And Private Vehicles

Crime / News / Virgin Islands / November 10, 2016

ST. THOMAS — V.I.P.D. officers here on Wednesday arrested Delanno Hodge Sr., 42, on a second-degree arson charge after he allegedly set his ex-girlfriend’s — who is a V.I.P.D. detective — private and police vehicles on fire.

According to Police Commissioner Delroy Richards, who revealed details of the incident to this publication early Tuesday, shortly after 1:00 a.m. in the wee hours of Tuesday, the detective was in her residence when she heard two loud explosions and proceeded to look outside, only to see her private vehicle and the police-issued vehicle on fire.

The Fire Service was called to put out the flames, as well as the V.I.P.D. to investigate the matter, according to Mr. Richards.

Officers then saw and apprehended the female detective’s ex-boyfriend, Mr. Hodge, who was attempting to flee the area. Mr. Richards said the relationship between the detective and her former lover had recently embittered, which may have played a role in the alleged arson.

No bail was set for Mr. Hodge, and he was remanded to the Bureau of Corrections pending his advise-of-rights hearing, set to take place today.

The V.I.P.D. is asking anyone with information that may lead to the arrest of suspects to contact the V.I.P.D. at (340) 774-2211, or Criminal Investigation Bureau at (340) 714-9801. You can also contact 911 or Crime Stoppers USVI, where your tip may net you a payday.
