This Year’s Food Truck Festival Another Win For Dept. Of Tourism’s Dine VI

ST. CROIX — As residents descended on the town of Frederiksted on Friday night by the hundreds in search of good music and food, it became evident that the Department of Tourism-sponsored Dine VI activity was one of the standout events of the weeks-long effort.

Dine VI, in short, was created to highlight the territory’s culinary offerings, while supporting culinary programs at schools throughout the territory. Also known as Restaurant Week, the set of events commence on October 27 and runs through November 12. Dine VI also serves to bolster the USVI as a culinary tourism destination.

Friday night in Frederiksted gave residents and visitors alike a taste of food eaten on the go, being served from food trucks, where a variety of different tastes were to be had. And music from VI songbird Tia, as well as St. Thomas’s Spectrum Band, added excitement to a gathering already having a good time, mingling with friends while satisfying their stomachs.

The event commenced at 5:30 p.m. and ran into the night, with Spectrum Band serving up enticing rhythms well past 10:00 p.m.

Upcoming Dine VI events include Feast Christiansted, a Taste of Two Islands, and the Food Learn “Farm to Table” Educational Series (held on each island), where students will learn how to embrace the principles of sustainable best practices and the importance of sourcing local cuisine. See full list of events here.

I wear many hats, I suppose, but the one which fits me best would be journalism, second to that would be radio personality, thirdly singer/songwriter and down the line. I've been the Editor-In-Chief at my videogames website, Gamesthirst, for over 5 years, writing over 7,000 articles and more than 2 million words. I'm also very passionate about where I live, the United States Virgin Islands, and I'm intent on making it a better place by being resourceful and keeping our leaders honest. VI Consortium was birthed out of said desire, hopefully my efforts bear fruit. Reach me at [email protected].
