Update: September 5, 2016 (8:10 p.m.) — This story has been updated to reflect new information made available through a press release the U.S. D.O.J. issued late Monday.

ST. THOMAS — A former V.I. Port Authority officer and current Mapp administration security detail, serving as a security guard for Juel Molloy, was apprehended at the Cyril E. King Airport on Saturday, multiple sources with knowledge of the incident have told this publication.

Neal Chesterfield, above, was arrested late Saturday with approximately 21½ kilograms of cocaine and $26,025.00 in U.S. Currency inside a small computer bag in his possession, according to the U.S. D.O.J.

V.I.P.D. Commissioner Delroy Richards said Saturday night that he’d heard of an arrest, but could not comment on the matter, as the Police Department had not made an arrest. An email sent to U.S. Attorney Ronald Sharpe was not returned at time of writing.

Mr. Chesterfield, who was assigned to Government House by former Governor John P. de Jongh, had only in June gotten married, and the couple are expecting twins, according to people close to the family. These people said the news of his arrest came as a surprise to many, and described him as a good man.

Mr. Chesterfield, who has a home in Florida, was attempting to board a flight on Spirit Airlines when he was apprehended, according to these sources.
