Waste Management’s Mandahl Convenience Center Officially Opens This Weekend

News / Virgin Islands / July 20, 2016

ST. THOMAS — The VI Waste Management Authority (W.M.A.) announced today the official opening of the Mandahl Convenience Center, which will be open to the public from Sunday. The new facility’s opening will serve Northside and East End residents here with a state-of-the-art manned facility for the disposal of solid waste, household hazardous waste and other special waste items.

An open house event will take place on Saturday from 10:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m., affording the community an opportunity to get acquainted with the operations, services and policies of the new facility and to meet with W.M.A. operations personnel.

The Mandahl Convenience Center is the second of its kind for the territory according to W.M.A. The first convenience center at Peter’s Rest in St. Croix has been a tremendous success, acccording to the authority, adding that it’s looking forward to duplicating that success at Mandahl.

According to the release, the convenience centers represent a new direction for W.M.A. as it moves towards closing the open bin site system. Replacement of the open bin system with convenience centers is part of the W.M.A.’s plans to improve the efficiency of solid waste collection and disposal services throughout the territory, the release adds.

Residents of the surrounding areas who utilized the former Mandahl bin site are encouraged to attend the Saturday open house event.
