Governor Kenneth Mapp has nominated Usie R. Richards and Hainsley A. Hewitt, Sr. to serve as members of the Virgin Islands Casino Control Commission, Government House announced today. Mr. Richards will replace Roderick Moorehead, Sr. in the district of St. Croix, and Mr. Hewitt will replace Henry Richardson in the district of St. Thomas and St. John. Both Moorehead’s and Richardson’s terms expire June 21, 2016.
Government House says Mr. Richards, a former senator, brings a wealth of knowledge in government relations and public service having served five terms in the Legislature of the Virgin Islands, including one term as Senate President. Prior to being elected to the senate, Mr. Richards worked at the Legislature as a researcher, special assistant and a legislative planner. Mr. Richards has also worked at the Department of Health as health plan developer and an assistant director. He holds a B.A. in health care administration from Fisk University.
Mr. Hewitt, according to the release, most recently served with the V.I. Army National Guard in the Office of the Adjutant General. He has been with the National Guard since 1985 in various positions including communications operations manager, operations and training supervisor and personnel service supervisor. Mr. Hewitt also worked in the claims office of the V.I. Department of Labor from 1977 to 1985. He studied business administration at the University of the Virgin Islands.
“Both nominees bring valuable experience that will contribute greatly to the effectiveness and efficiency of the Commission”, said Governor Mapp. The territory’s leader urged the Legislature to act expeditiously in confirming these nominees.
