Potter Heads To New York, Washington D.C. For Meetings

ST. THOMAS — Lieutenant Governor Osbert Potter departed the territory on Sunday to conduct a progressive technology school site visit at the Paul Robeson High School campus in Brooklyn, New York, a press release Mr. Potter’s office issued this afternoon has revealed. The New York trip will be followed by Mr. Potter’s attendance at the National Association of Insurance Commissioners (NAIC) Commissioner Congressional Meeting in Washington, D.C., the release further states.

Mr. Potter has expressed interest in observing the Progressive Technology (P-Tech) 9-14 model school, which are public institutions that offer students a new approach to learning, bringing together the best elements of high school, college, and career. Students who graduate from such schools leave with an industry-recognized associate degree and the skills to succeed in high-growth industries. Mr. Potter will visit the school to determine and assess the viability of such a school in the territory.

According to the release, the focus of the N.A.I.C. Commissioner Fly-in Congressional Meeting is to present state and territories insurance-related issues and concerns to members of the U.S. Congress, in an effort to discuss matters that can be addressed on a national level through legislation. Mr. Potter serves as the territory’s Commissioner of Insurance.

In accordance with the Revised Organic Act, Senate President Neville James will serve as acting lieutenant governor. Mr. Potter will return to the territory on May 14, 2016.
