Ricardo Richards And Elena Christian To Dismiss At 1:00 P.M. Today

ST. CROIX — The Ricardo Richards Elementary School and Elena Christian Junior High School will be dismissed at 1:00 p.m. today, the Department of Education has announced.

According to a public notice issued this afternoon, a damaged underground water pipe was discovered at Ricardo Richards, and Virgin Islands Water and Power Authority water pressure issues continue to persist at Elena Christian. Yesterday, D.O.E. said school would resume at Elena Christian, John H. Woodson and Central High as alternate sources of water would be identified to supply school bathrooms, and students were encouraged to carry bottled water to. There was no new information regarding Central High School, which suggest that the school may remain in session for regular hours.

As for the affected schools, D.O.E. said school buses will begin picking up students at both schools at 1:00 p.m. Parents wishing to pick up their children before 1 p.m. may do so, but are required to follow the proper sign-out procedure at the schools. Students at both schools are being fed lunch, and repair crews are on-site at the schools, according to the release.
