Entertainment / Lifestyle / News / Virgin Islands / February 17, 2016

ST. CROIX — Senate President Neville James expressed his satisfaction for the success of the 2016 Agriculture and Food Fair and the apparent lack of criminal incidents throughout the Presidents’ Day Weekend, a press release Mr. James’ office issued on Tuesday makes known.

AgriFest 2016 brought thousands of residents and visitors to the Department of Agriculture Fairgrounds over the long weekend and showcased the best of Crucian-based locally grown produce and livestock, as well as highlighting the talents of local chefs and artisans, Mr. James said.

“It always bring me great joy to participate in this event and witness the love of our community shows for our agriculture industry, which I believe so strongly in. I attended the AgFair on all three days, and I would like to thank the Department of Agriculture for successfully hosting one of the Territory’s largest events yet again, and commend them on a job well done,” He said. “I would also like the thank every Virgin Islander and visitor, whether you came by car, boat, or plane, for showing your support to the men and women who make their livelihood in this industry.”

The Senate president was also pleased to recognize the absence of violent activity over the weekend. Along with Agrifest, Mr. James said there were several concerts and other events which took place with great success and without incident. He appreciated the visible police presence at the fairgrounds, and thanked the Virgin Islands Police Department for their diligent efforts serving the community this weekend.

“We should be proud of St. Croix because there were no families that had to wake up to tragic or violent news, especially during this long weekend with many events happening across the island. It just goes to show that we can celebrate the treasures we hold dear in this community without being distracted by unnecessary confrontation and senselesss brutality,” Mr. James said. “Overall, it was a wonderful weekend for Virgin Islands culture and I look forward to many, many more weekends and events like this in the coming months.”
