Rotary Club Of St. Croix Mid-Isle Gives Over $17,000 In Educational Programming Grants

News / Virgin Islands / February 3, 2016

ST. CROIX — Rotary Club of St. Croix Mid-Isle announced on Wednesday its 2015 Educational Program Grant winners, through a press release issued the same day. The club has given out over $17,000 in educational programming grants over the last few weeks.

Rotary Mid-Isle, which has a strong focus on helping the youth here, according to the release, granted monies to seven programs to assist in youth programs.

A grand total of $10,000 in educational programming grants were presented to local Youth Educational Projects, selected by the club from over twenty applicants as deserving of support. This year’s winners are:

  • Helena Stevens – LADY Coders – Ricardo Richards
  • Kathleen Grunder – Destination Imagination – GHCDS
  • Kristina Torres – St Croix Montessori Garden
  • Laurise Oliver – Cultural Novelists – Alexander Hamilton
  • Lucy Jackson – Special Needs Career Exploration – CTEC
  • Aehsa Duval – Story Room Project – Ricardo Richards
  • Kathryn Collins – Baby and Me – CTEC

Funds for the Rotary Educational Grant programs come from various community partners and fundraising efforts. On March 4th at 6:00 p.m. at the Captain Morgan visitor center, Rotary Mid-Isle will be holding its annual Iron Bartender fundraiser, for which all proceeds will go directly to the educational programs fund.

“We are very excited to give back to the youth and teachers of the community with our grant program. We only wish we could have given more. The amount of worthy program applications that we received this year made the selection project a very difficult one. We continue to look for other partners in the community who wish to join with us to pool their funds into this program that is designed to empower those with the most direct connections to the students,” said Mid-Isle President Kim DeLine.
