Criminals Disconnect Surveillance Camera Of Business, Steal Safe Containing Undetermined Amount Of Cash

News / Virgin Islands / October 27, 2015

ST. THOMAS — One or more thieves here broke into the Advance Auto Parts store and stole a safe containing an undetermined amount of cash, VIPD Media Specialist Sakeeda Freeman announced today.

According to Ms. Freeman, at about 7:22 a.m. on Monday, the 911 emergency call center notified officers of a robbery that took place at the auto parts store near Tutu Park Mall.

Upon arrival at the store, detectives made contact with the manager, who stated that upon opening for business along with the lead cashier, he realized the alarm system was not working. Continuing her general routine, the cashier then went around the counter and realized the company safe, which contained an undetermined amount of cash, was missing

Additionally, the manager also noticed that the store’s video surveillance system had been disconnected.

The matter is being followed up by the Criminal Investigation Bureau, according to Ms. Freeman.

Police are asking anyone with information concerning this incident to call 911 or the anonymous tip service, Crime Stoppers USVI at 1-800-222-(TIPS) 8477 or go to www.crimestoppersusvi.org
