Potter Advises Public on Division of Corporations and Trademarks Notices

Community Center / October 14, 2015

Lieutenant Governor Osbert E. Potter announces that a representative of the Division of Corporation and Trademarks will be at the St. John Tax Assessor’s office at the Islandia building on Wednesday, October 14 and 28, 2015 from 9:30am to 3:30pm.  St. John residents are encouraged to visit the office for corporate services and information.

Lieutenant Governor Potter also advises the public that all business names must be registered with the Division of Corporation and Trademarks before applying for a business license with the Department of Licensing and Consumer Affairs.  Business owners must comply with the annual or biennial filing requirements of the Virgin Islands Code to keep their names.  If business owners do not comply with the statutory requirements, they run the risk of losing their business name to another party that files an application with a fee at the Division of Corporation and Trademarks.

Additionally, Lieutenant Governor Potter encourages the public to contact the Division of Corporation and Trademarks to obtain the requirements to register a non-profit corporation.  Non-profit status is granted by the Office of the Lieutenant Governor, and tax exemption status is obtained from the Internal Revenue Service.  Registered non-profit corporations are required to file reports annually with the Office of the Lieutenant Governor to maintain its good standing status.

For information and assistance please contact the Division of Corporation and Trademarks at 340-776-8515 in St. Thomas, and 340-773-6449 in St. Croix.

I wear many hats, I suppose, but the one which fits me best would be journalism, second to that would be radio personality, thirdly singer/songwriter and down the line. I've been the Editor-In-Chief at my videogames website, Gamesthirst, for over 5 years, writing over 7,000 articles and more than 2 million words. I'm also very passionate about where I live, the United States Virgin Islands, and I'm intent on making it a better place by being resourceful and keeping our leaders honest. VI Consortium was birthed out of said desire, hopefully my efforts bear fruit. Reach me at [email protected].
