ST. THOMAS — Governor Kenneth Mapp will travel out of the territory to New York City for Labor Day Weekend celebrations and to promote the islands at various stops, a press release issued by Government House this evening has made known.
According to the release, Mapp will march as the Grand Marshal in the West Indian American Day Carnival Association Labor Day Parade, and then make an appearance at the USVI booth on the block between Bedford and Rogers Avenue.
He will also attend several media appointments while in New York, including Fox 5 and Bloomberg Radio’s “Taking Stock”, promoting the territory on a national level, according to the release.
The territory’s leader is also set to speak at the Caribbean Cultural Festival in Harlem, where VI artist Pressure will be headlining the event, taking place at the Jackie Robinson Park.
The governor will return to the territory on Sept. 9. Lieutenant Governor Osbert Potter will act as governor for the duration of Mapp’s stay out of the territory, according to Virgin Islands Code.
