TORTOLA — It’s a sad time for the employees of the BVI Electricity Corporation and the entire British territory as a 32-year-old man was electrocuted while on the job Monday, August 30th , 2015.
Alex George, an employee of the BVI Electricity Corporation, Virgin Gorda branch was electrocuted while working on a utility pole.
So far, his death is being viewed as an accident.

Minister for Communications and Works Mark Vanterpool said he got the news Monday afternoon and it was very disheartening; and still very difficult to process. He stated on Tuesday morning that he was in communication with persons from the BVIEC who went to Virgin Gordon to conduct an assessment of the tragedy.
“The Corporation has been in touch with me quite a bit throughout last night, as they were dealing with the scene. They call me this morning also, so they are over there [on Virgin Gorda] again as they assessed what happened, and hopefully we can find ways to prevent such accidents from happening in the future,” Vanterpool said.
The minister also expressed sympathy with the relatives and former co-workers of the deceased.
“I want to send out our full sympathies on behalf of the Ministry to his family. His mom Ms George is very distraught; its very difficult for her to process it. We want to tell her that our prayers are with her, and we want to be there in whatever way we can to comfort her. I know that the premier is going to be in touch with her also,” said Vanterpool.
He further stated that a team from the BVIEC has visited the grieving mother, and his office ‘will be seeing her at some point’.
