Glynn Man Shot On Porch In Apparent East/West Rivalry

Breaking News / News / Virgin Islands / July 12, 2015

ST. CROIX — A weekend of violence here saw a man being shot outside a nightclub in Sion Farm; an attempted robbery in Estate Strawberry that ended with one of the suspects being shot twice by an unknown assailant; a 29-year-old who was shot in the shoulder and grazed by a bullet in her neck at a Richmond, Christiansted house party; and now a young man shot in the wee hours of Saturday morning while sitting on his porch, after being asked if he was from the east or west side of the island.

According to the report, the 911 emergency call center received a call from the Juan F. Luis Hospital concerning a male gunshot victim who’d walked into the facility seeking medical attention.

Officers responded to the incident and met with the victim, an 18-year-old from Estate Glynn, who said he was sitting on his porch at about 3:00 a.m. talking on his phone, when a vehicle drove by his residence and stopped.

The operator of the vehicle then asked the victim whether he was from the east or west side of the island, pulled out a gun, pointed at the 18-year-old and discharged a shot, striking the victim in his forearm. The assailant then drove off.

The victim said he felt that he’d been hit, however instead of calling for ambulance assistance, he waited for a ride and traveled to the hospital via private transportation.

Jackson said detectives are continuing their investigation into the incident.

I wear many hats, I suppose, but the one which fits me best would be journalism, second to that would be radio personality, thirdly singer/songwriter and down the line. I've been the Editor-In-Chief at my videogames website, Gamesthirst, for over 5 years, writing over 7,000 articles and more than 2 million words. I'm also very passionate about where I live, the United States Virgin Islands, and I'm intent on making it a better place by being resourceful and keeping our leaders honest. VI Consortium was birthed out of said desire, hopefully my efforts bear fruit. Reach me at [email protected].
