Married At First Sight Cast Spotted At Mermaid Beach

Entertainment / Featured / Lifestyle / July 4, 2015

ST. CROIX — Married at First Sight — the reality TV show that features six people who agree to participate in an extreme experiment: getting legally married to a complete stranger — is currently on St. Croix, and has been since earlier this week.

As previously reported by The Consortium, the show’s cast and crew are filming on the island, visiting various spots (they recently took a Buck Island trip), eating at various local restaurants and doing other interesting things.

On Friday, the group filmed at the Buccaneer Hotel’s Mermaid Beach (they are currently staying in one of the hotel’s suits), where the newlyweds could be seen interacting with each other, albeit uncomfortably, according to people close to VI Consortium who were on the beach while the cast and crew were filming.

Is it a sign that the couple, married for just one week, are already having marital problems? It’s hard to tell, as they too have a script to follow. What is known, though, is that the publicity Married at First Sight brings to St. Croix is a great boost for the island in regards to tourism.

The Consortium first caught up with the cast and crew on Wednesday at Tooth Works, a firm specializing in a variety of dental specialties, located behind Scotia Bank in the Sunny Isle area. The group visited the facility because the bride needed emergency dental care after breaking a tooth.

The show’s producer, at Tooth Works while the bride was receiving treatment, turned down an interview because she was not allowed to talk to the media. They also barred The Consortium from capturing photos of the cast, citing similar claims.

Married at First Sight is based on a hit Danish show, “Married”. Aside from the cast of six, it includes four specialists — a sexologist, a spiritualist, a psychologist and a sociologist — who use scientific matchmaking methods to determine each couple, who would not have met or had contact with each other until the wedding day.

The series then documents the relationships, including honeymoons and other relatable events of married life. After several weeks, each couple must decide whether to remain together or go their individual ways.

I wear many hats, I suppose, but the one which fits me best would be journalism, second to that would be radio personality, thirdly singer/songwriter and down the line. I've been the Editor-In-Chief at my videogames website, Gamesthirst, for over 5 years, writing over 7,000 articles and more than 2 million words. I'm also very passionate about where I live, the United States Virgin Islands, and I'm intent on making it a better place by being resourceful and keeping our leaders honest. VI Consortium was birthed out of said desire, hopefully my efforts bear fruit. Reach me at [email protected].
