Deadline Extended For UVI’s Edmund Penn Scholarship

ST. CROIX – The deadline has been extended for a scholarship available for incoming freshman for the 2015-16 academic year, the University of the Virgin Islands said.

The scholarship is called The Edmund Penn Scholarship and it is offered by the Magens Bay Authority and the Jason Carroll Memorial Scholarship. Additionally, a scholarship with a deadline of May 4 is still accepting applications as well.

The Edmund Penn Scholarship requirements:

The scholarship recipient must be an incoming freshman who graduated from a high school in either the St. Croix or the St. Thomas/St. John District. The applicant must plan to major in marine biology, biology, chemistry, or minor in environmental science at the University of the Virgin Islands. To be considered, applicants must have a minimum SAT Score of 490 Math/500 English. The scholarship covers tuition, books and fees. The recipient must maintain a minimum 3.0 overall grade point average to retain the scholarship. The deadline to apply has been extended to May 15.

The Jason Carroll Memorial Scholarship is also taking applications. The requirements are:

*The scholarship recipient must be an incoming freshman and VI Resident under the age of 20 with no criminal record and a minimum of 2.5 grade point average. The applicant must be accepted and plan to attend the University of the Virgin Islands for the 2015-16 academic year. To be considered, applicants must have demonstrated a personal commitment against violence and be willing to participate in the “Mothers Against Guns Run/Walk” taking place at 4 p.m. on May 17, on the Coast Guard dock located on Charlotte Amalie Waterfront on St. Thomas. The scholarship covers tuition, books and fees. The deadline to apply is May 4.
