Multiple Shots Fired At Police During Pursuit On St. Thomas

Breaking News / News / Virgin Islands / March 26, 2015

Suspects in a stolen vehicle twice opened fire on St. Thomas police Wednesday night on St. Thomas.

According to information received from VIPD Public Information Officer Kevin Jackson, at about 8:50 p.m. Wednesday, police officers on routine patrol observed a vehicle that had been reported stolen from the Cyril E. King Airport earlier in the day. As the officers attempted to stop the vehicle in the vicinity of Barbel Plaza, the vehicle’s occupants opened fire, striking the police unit.

Other officers attempted to intercept the stolen vehicle as it traveled up Mafolie Road and again the occupants fired after another police unit.

The suspects eventually abandoned the vehicle in the area of Agnes Fancy and fled on foot. None of the officers were injured and the case is under investigation.

Anyone with information about the incident is asked to call the Criminal Investigation Bureau at (340) 715-5522, 911 or the anonymous tips service, Crime Stoppers USVI, at 1-800-222-8477.
