Mapp Administration Joins Office Of Veterans Affairs To Celebrate Women’s History Month

Government / News / Virgin Islands / March 12, 2015

Governor Kenneth Mapp and Lieutenant Governor Osbert Potter have joined with Director of the Office of Veterans Affairs Patrick Farrell in celebrating Women’s History Month.

To commemorate the occasion, Veterans Affairs will present “Weaving the Stories of Women’s Lives,” which is also the theme for this year’s event, at the following three locations:

  • St. John on Friday, March 13 at 6 p.m. — St. Ursula Church and Multipurpose Center
  • St. Thomas on Monday, March 16 at 6 .p.m – SFC Leonard B. Francis Armory in Estate Nazareth
  • St. Croix on Tuesday, March 17 at 6 p.m. — Bromley Berkley Post 133, #15-16 Prince Street, Frederiksted

Veterans Affairs also released the following statement in honor of women:

“The accounts of the lives of individual women are critically important because they reveal exceptionally strong role models who share a more expansive vision of what a woman can do. The stories of women’s lives, and the choices they make, encourage girls and young women to think larger and bolder, and give boys and men a fuller understanding of the female experience. Knowing women’s achievements challenges stereotypes and upends social assumptions about who women are and what women can accomplish today.

There is a real power in hearing women’s stories, both personally and in a larger context. Remembering and recounting tales of our ancestors’ talents, sacrifices, and commitments inspires today’s generations and opens the way to the future. We recognize and celebrate the many ways that women’s history has become woven into the fabric of our national story.”

I wear many hats, I suppose, but the one which fits me best would be journalism, second to that would be radio personality, thirdly singer/songwriter and down the line. I've been the Editor-In-Chief at my videogames website, Gamesthirst, for over 5 years, writing over 7,000 articles and more than 2 million words. I'm also very passionate about where I live, the United States Virgin Islands, and I'm intent on making it a better place by being resourceful and keeping our leaders honest. VI Consortium was birthed out of said desire, hopefully my efforts bear fruit. Reach me at [email protected].
