Wedding Expo Comes To St. Croix, CTEC Students Bake With Celebrity Chef

Entertainment / News / Virgin Islands / January 24, 2015

The St. Croix Caribbean Wedding Expo will take place on Sunday, Jan. 25 from noon to 6 p.m. at the Sunshine Mall. It is free and open to the public.

According to organizers, the event will bring brides and grooms together with wedding professionals in order to help them plan for their big day, and to “identify St. Croix and the rest of the Virgin Islands as a great Caribbean wedding destination.”

Event highlights will include resort and wedding wear fashion shows, featuring clothing from local designers and bridal boutiques, as well as models from Cyndee’s Models in the Isle and JG Management. There will also be a Bride Dive for online-registered brides and a Man Cave for grooms to relax. Competitions for the best Caribbean wedding cake, local floral design, and table top competition will also take place.

The Expo is the culmination of a weekend of activities that began on Friday afternoon at the Education Complex’s Career and Technical Education Center (CTEC). Students teamed up with award-winning celebrity Chef Dana Herbert, winner of TLC’s Cake Boss: Next Great Baker and owner of Desserts by Dana, to whip up a wedding cake in preparation for his participation in Sunday’s expo.

Chef Anton Doos III, culinary arts instructor at CTEC’s “Good to Chew” catering, was instrumental in arranging Chef Herbert’s visit to the school.

The students’ cake will be on display at the Expo.

On Friday night, a VIP meet and greet was held at the Frederiksted Hotel with Chef Herbert.

Popular TV wedding planner, Sandy Malone, host of TLC’s ‘Wedding Island’ that was filmed in Vieques, brought her no-nonsense style to a seminar she conducted on Saturday morning on how to become a successful destination wedding planner.
