Delegate Plaskett To Sit On Agriculture Committee

News / Politics / Virgin Islands / January 10, 2015

Delegate to Congress Stacey Plaskett, who was recently sworn in as the territory’s new representative in Washington, has been assigned to serve on the U.S. House Committee on Agriculture, becoming the first U.S. Virgin Islands Delegate to serve on the powerful committee.

“It was definitely one of the committees I wanted to serve on and it is a tremendous honor,” Plaskett said. “There is much needed assistance to our local agriculture industry, and I have spoke with a number of local farmers throughout the campaign who stressed the importance of our growth and sustainability in agriculture.”

Plaskett added that being on the Agriculture Committee allows her to better advocate for critical assistance in various segments, including energy, food stamps, and increasing the territory’s food export.

“I want to assist farmers to not only feed Virgin Islanders, but increase food exports as well as help to sustain our small business in the territory. Serving as a member on this committee will better position us to protect food stamp funding and work on increasing the assistance to drive our energy costs down through rural utilities programs,” Plaskett said.

Over the course of its nearly 200-year history, the Committee on Agriculture has seen tremendous growth in size as well as influence, and has become one of the key Committees in the U.S. House of Representatives.

I wear many hats, I suppose, but the one which fits me best would be journalism, second to that would be radio personality, thirdly singer/songwriter and down the line. I've been the Editor-In-Chief at my videogames website, Gamesthirst, for over 5 years, writing over 7,000 articles and more than 2 million words. I'm also very passionate about where I live, the United States Virgin Islands, and I'm intent on making it a better place by being resourceful and keeping our leaders honest. VI Consortium was birthed out of said desire, hopefully my efforts bear fruit. Reach me at [email protected].
