Casanova, 21, was arrested by Major Crimes detectives on St. Croix on Dec. 9 at 5:30 p.m. and charged with Murder in the First Degree for the death of 54-year-old de Jesus. According to detectives, de Jesus died from blunt force trauma to his body.

Police say Casanova is being held on $1 million bail and has been remanded to the Golden Grove Adult Correctional Facility pending his Advise of Rights hearing.

Earlier reports on de Jesus’ death say he was the victim of a fatal stabbing early on the morning of Nov. 17 on Company Street in St. Croix. Officers were dispatched to a fight in progress and when they arrived, they found de Jesus lying unresponsive on the ground in the building where the incident took place.

The Major Crime and Criminal Investigation Bureau detectives continue to investigate the case.
