Christensen Launches Run-Off Campaign As New Election Results Come In

Featured / News / Politics / Virgin Islands / November 11, 2014

November 4 General Election clearly shows that there will be a runoff between the Christensen-Ottley and Mapp-Potter teams. — Donna M. Christensen

As the Virgin Islands Elections System released updated General Election 2014 results on Monday, Delegate to Congress and gubernatorial candidate, Donna M. Christensen, recently officially launched her runoff election campaign against Kenneth Mapp, the candidate who led Christensen by as much as 12 percent since November 4 election results began coming in.

But the Christensen-Ottley team seems to be more energized than they were on November 4, and in many parts of the the territory, you’ll see them strategizing, canvassing and hear them on the radio making their case for Christensen.

In a recent ten-minute radio ad, Christensen said the “November 4 General Election clearly shows that there will be a runoff between the Christensen-Ottley and Mapp-Potter teams. This means that on Tuesday, November 18, we will have a new election, and we all start from the beginning, at zero votes cast.”

Christensen went on to thank her supporters for braving the inclement weather and said despite “desperate attempts to confuse the election” to offer her their votes. The Delegate also urged her supporters to come out on November 18 for a “second chance to do it all over again, and to make sure that we make the right choice for the beleaguered people of the Virgin Islands.”

The Mapp-Potter team has released ads of its own, highlighting the “Time to Build” slogan used throughout the election cycle. Yet, on the Mapp-Potter website, there hasn’t been any updates urging supporters to support him in the runoff election, and the team has filed a complaint against the Board of Elections, St. Thomas District, over ballot-counting concerns.

The V.I. Elections System’s latest election results update showed Mapp losing some ground with 47.89 percent of the votes, while Christensen remained unchanged at 37.74 percent.

Below are General Election 2014 latest results according to the Elections System of the Virgin Islands, last updated Nov. 10, 2014 at 7:45 p.m.

I wear many hats, I suppose, but the one which fits me best would be journalism, second to that would be radio personality, thirdly singer/songwriter and down the line. I've been the Editor-In-Chief at my videogames website, Gamesthirst, for over 5 years, writing over 7,000 articles and more than 2 million words. I'm also very passionate about where I live, the United States Virgin Islands, and I'm intent on making it a better place by being resourceful and keeping our leaders honest. VI Consortium was birthed out of said desire, hopefully my efforts bear fruit. Reach me at [email protected].
