Golden Grove Warden Abruptly Resigns

Breaking News / News / Virgin Islands / October 9, 2014

Warden Donald Redwood of the Golden Grove Adult Correctional Facility & Detention Center (GGACF/DC), abruptly resigned his post of eight months on Wednesday to return to the U.S. mainland.

The announcement was made by Dwayne A. Benjamin, Sr., acting director of the Virgin Islands Bureau of Corrections, who also appointed Diane Prosper to fill the post.

Benjamin credits Redwood for the progress made at the Golden Grove facility and thanked him for his contributions.

“We wish him every success on his endeavors and are greatly saddened by his departure,” Benjamin said. “However, we will continue with the same momentum and drive displayed with regards to the corrective measures at Golden Grove.”

Prosper has worked at the agency for the last 18 years, rising through the ranks and most recently serving as the Assistant Warden for the last six years. She was educated locally and holds a master of arts degree in Psychology with a concentration in Counseling, and a bachelor of arts degree in Psychology, both from the University of the Virgin Islands.

Prosper was one of several government employees who recently received Certified Public Manager status after completing a 12-month course as part of the territory’s ongoing Certified Public Manager program led by the Division of Personnel.

As of press time, it was unclear why Redwood resigned.
