As per the current forecast trajectory, Hurricane Tammy, is tracking well east-northeast of both Puerto Rico and the U.S. Virgin Islands by Sunday. Though uncertainties remain about Tammy's exact path, there's potential for the system to linger north of the local islands into the early parts of next week.
Even with the expected distance between Tammy and the islands, the hurricane's moisture field, encompassing its outer and feeding bands, is projected to impact parts of the local waters and the islands in the coming days, according to the National Weather Service in San Juan, Puerto Rico. Additionally, swells created by Tammy could lead to treacherous marine and surf zone conditions.

Rains: The region is set to experience storm-total rainfall estimates between 2-4 inches, possibly even higher in isolated areas. This rainfall, which would arise from scattered to numerous showers and occasional thunderstorms, might cause isolated flash and urban flooding. There's also concern about potential mudslides in regions with high terrains, and sudden increases in water levels along rivers, dry arroyos, and streams.

Swells: Generated by Tammy, these swells could create hazardous conditions for small boats, with seas rising up to 10 feet in the Atlantic waters and the Anegada Passage. Furthermore, there's a risk of life-threatening rip currents at most beaches facing the north and east.

Winds: The areas could see short bursts of gusty winds, with speeds ranging between 25-30 mph or even slightly more, especially in regions hit by the hurricane's outer bands and intense thunderstorms. Squally wind conditions might also prevail over the Atlantic waters and the Anegada passage.
