Attorney General Ariel Smith. By. GOV'T HOUSE

Government House on Tuesday issued a release conveying a statement from Governor Albert Bryan, who has accepted the resignation of Attorney General Ariel Smith, effective March 15.

While Mr. Bryan did not provide a reason for Ms. Smith's resignation, who he announced as his pick for AG on March 21, 2023, people with knowledge of the matter said Mr. Bryan and Ms. Smith have been at odds for some time. Mr. Bryan did not immediately respond to a request for comment.

The governor thanked Ms. Smith for her service to the people of the Virgin Islands during her time in office.

According to Gov't House, a search for a new attorney general will begin immediately. "The Governor and Attorney General Smith wish each other well in their future endeavors," concluded the Gov't House release.
