St. Croix Man Dies After Monday Evening Shooting in Whim

ST. CROIX — A 45-year-old man died Monday evening after being shot multiple times in Whim, according to information released by authorities.

On Monday at approximately 6:04 p.m., the St. Croix 911 Emergency Call Center received a ShotSpotter notification and multiple calls reporting shots fired in the area. The calls also included reports of a possible gunshot victim.

The V.I. Police Department, Emergency Medical Services and other emergency personnel were dispatched to the scene. Upon arrival, emergency responders found one individual suffering from multiple gunshot wounds to his body.

The victim was transported by ambulance to the Juan F. Luis Hospital for further medical treatment, where he later succumbed to his injuries.

Family members identified the deceased as 45-year-old Rusiel Encarnacion.

The case remains under active investigation. Authorities said additional information will be released as it becomes available.
