Police investigating crime scene in Castle Coakley By. ERNICE GilBERT/VI CONSORTIUM

ST. CROIX — A shooting incident in Castle Coakley today left three people injured, with gunmen discharging upwards of 82 shots, according to V.I.P.D. shell casing markers on the crime scene. The incident followed another shooting occurrence in Sion Hill last night, where a woman reported that her car was impacted by gunfire, and a deadly shooting outside the Thomas Bakery in Castle Coakley near Sunny Isle Saturday afternoon.

The Consortium saw V.I.P.D. detectives on the scene in Castle Coakley combing the area for evidence, while a V.I.P.D. photographer documented the scene. It was not clear whether this morning's shooting, which occurred at about 9:30 a.m., was connected to the shooting outside Thomas Bakery yesterday. Mr. Derima said officers were still trying to determine whether there were any links between the two violent crimes.

The three victims — two males and one female, including a minor — were receiving treatment at the Juan F. Luis Hospital and Medical Center as of this morning, Mr. Derima said. He said the injuries were not life-threatening, however, one of the victims has to be airlifted for further medical attention.

While today's shooting did not result in any deaths, so far this year the territory has seen three homicides, with two occurring on St. Croix and one on St. Thomas.

Mr. Derima said the incident is currently being investigated by the V.I.P.D.'s Criminal Investigation Bureau.

The V.I.P.D. is asking anyone with information about the shooting to contact Crime Stoppers USVI with an anonymous tip here.
