According to Mr. Derima, an individual on the scene told police that he shot the victim. "Based on the individual's statement and additional information, police placed Anselmo Cruse, 33, under arrest and charged him with voluntary manslaughter," Mr. Derima said. Cruse is said to have told police that he acted in self defense, according to a person who heard Cruse's talk with police.

The victim was identified by next of kin as Shamal Riviere, 30.

Unable to post bail of $125,000, Cruse was remanded to the Golden Grove Detention Center pending his advisement hearing.
