ST. CROIX — Motorists traveling along Queen Mary Highway/Centerline Road should expect continued detours through mid-September, as the V.I. Water and Power Authority confirmed that traffic adjustments will remain in place while contractor J. Benton Construction carries out the installation phase of its Electrical Underground Project.

The closure, which began on August 14, affects the stretch of roadway between the University of the Virgin Islands/St. Croix Educational Complex High School/Career and Technical Education Center traffic light and Industrial Road/Upper Love Road. The road is closed in both directions until this stage of the project is complete.

Traffic entering Queen Mary Highway at the Castle Burke traffic light/East Airport Road will continue to be limited to accessing UVI, CTEC, and the St. Croix Educational Complex. WAPA said all changes are clearly marked to guide drivers safely through the area.

In thanking the community for its patience, WAPA said the undergrounding work is part of efforts to build a more resilient electrical infrastructure. The Authority emphasized that its communications department is committed to connecting with residents “from the youngest members of the community to the eldest, through meaningful, transparent and effective communication.
