Coki Point Beach in St. Thomas
ST. THOMAS — V.I.P.D. officers on Monday afternoon responded to what was described as a possible drowning incident at Coki Point Beach.
According to police spokesman Toby Derima, on Monday at approximately 2:02 p.m. the 911 Emergency Call Center dispatched officers to the beach to investigate the matter.
Officers traveled to the area and found an unresponsive female on the beach. The female, later identified as 24-year-old Denielle Marie Lipkins, was transported via ambulance to the Schneider Regional Medical Center where she was pronounced dead by an emergency room physician.
The victim was said to be riding a jetski with another female and had fallen off a number of times, according to Mr. Derima. The victim had also said to the other female on the jetski that she wasn't feeling too well, said Mr. Derima.
The V.I.P.D. said it was awaiting an autopsy to be performed before determining cause of death. Mr. Derima stated that though the incident has been classified as a possible drowning, only an autopsy would reveal for certain the cause of death.
