A statement from the V.I. Department of Education indicates that the Pearl B. Larsen PreK-8 School will remain closed on Monday, as authorities continue repairs to the school's water system.

The school closed early on Friday, “due to a broken water pipe that significantly impacted the school's ability to maintain adequate water service for daily operations,” said the statement from VIDE.
Initial investigations by the Bureau of School Construction and Repair reportedly revealed that the problem required more than just a quick fix, “prompting a full upgrade of the water supply line that services the school's campus,” VIDE said.
Preparatory work reportedly began over the weekend, but the repair and upgrade effort is expected to be extensive. Given the anticipated disruption, VIDE says students at Pearl B. Larsen may be required to temporarily shift to virtual learning. “More detailed guidance regarding instructional continuity will be provided should that step become necessary,” VIDE advised.

An official update on school operation has been promised later on Monday.
