ST. CROIX — The Waste Management Authority announced Sunday morning that the Anguilla Landfill will remain closed until further notice as crews continue working to fully extinguish an active fire at the facility.

The authority said emergency personnel and WMA operations crews have maintained continuous fire suppression efforts throughout the weekend. While the fire has been significantly reduced, VIWMA said conditions inside the landfill are still unstable and unsafe for public access.

Officials said the extended closure is necessary to protect residents, commercial haulers, staff, and contractors, while allowing emergency responders to continue their work without disruption.

WMA is also warning residents and commercial haulers not to enter or approach the landfill while the closure remains in effect. The authority said unauthorized access places individuals at risk and interferes with ongoing emergency operations.

According to WMA, updates will continue to be issued as conditions change, and the public will be notified once the facility is safe to reopen and normal operations can resume.

The authority thanked the community for its patience, cooperation, and understanding as crews work to bring the incident to a safe resolution.
