The V.I. Department of Education has announced that all public schools across the Territory will reopen on Monday, August 18, 2025, following the passage of Hurricane Erin. The reopening includes St. Croix Educational Complex High School, which had been closed on Friday due to a water pump issue that has now been resolved, VIDE said.

The Department said that the Bureau of School Construction and Maintenance (BSCM) worked through the weekend to address the mechanical problem at SCEC, ensuring the building is once again safe and ready for students and staff to return.

While all other schools will resume full operations, John H. Woodson Jr. High School remains closed, with no reopening date yet announced.

VIDE expressed gratitude for the community’s resilience and emphasized the role of schools in helping children regain a sense of normalcy after the storm. “As students, educators, and staff return to campuses, the VIDE hopes that schools can once again provide stability, connection, and a sense of normalcy for our children.”

Officials acknowledged the ongoing challenges many families face during hurricane season, including emotional stress, resource limitations, and basic disruptions like water and power outages. The Department stated, “Our thoughts remain with all those who continue to recover from the storm.”

With hurricane season extending through November, VIDE said it will maintain close coordination with BSCM to uphold safe school environments and reduce interruptions to learning. Families are encouraged to remain vigilant and to monitor official VIDE communication platforms for the latest updates.
