ST. THOMAS — A major incident occurred on Monday morning when a pump truck overturned in the area of Mandahl, St. Thomas, according to a report from the V.I. Police Department.

Motor Carrier Assistance Program Unit inspectors were dispatched to the scene at 9:57 a.m. following reports of the accident. Upon the arrival of emergency services, both the driver and the passenger of the truck were found pinned inside the vehicle. Fire, EMS, and Rescue teams were already on the scene, working to extract the individuals from the overturned truck.

Both the driver and the passenger were receiving medical attention from EMS personnel when officers arrived.

The accident occurred as the truck was traveling downhill. According to initial reports, the operator lost control of the vehicle, causing it to veer to the right. The pump truck subsequently ran over a parked vehicle, flipped over, and traveled approximately 212 feet downhill into a ravine, according to the VIPD.

Both occupants of the truck, the driver and the passenger, sustained serious injuries. They suffered head injuries and other bodily harm as a result of the accident. They were both admitted to the Schneider Regional Medical Center for treatment. As of the latest reports, they remain in stable but serious condition, the VIPD said.

This incident has prompted an active investigation into the cause of the collision, according to police. Authorities are currently examining the circumstances that led to this serious accident, with further details to be provided as the investigation progresses.
