Broad Daylight Robbery and Shooting Reported in Estate Whim

Update: In a followup release issued Saturday afternoon, the V.I.P.D. said the incident was related to a purchase transaction that started on an online marketplace, where a person who agreed to purchase an item faced attempted robbery by the would be seller.

Original story: ST. CROIX — A robbery incident which resulted in shots being fired occurred in Estate Whim Friday morning, the V.I.P.D. has confirmed to the Consortium.

Police spokesman Toby Derima said while details were still being gathered, preliminary information provided by the 911 Emergency Call Center revealed that at about 10:07 a.m. Friday, calls came in relative to a shooting and first-degree robbery incident in the vicinity of the Whim Ballpark. More calls to 911 stated that a possible victim left the scene in a vehicle.

The victim contacted 911 and met with police units at a nearby gas station most likely to provide details of what had happened. The victim was unharmed, Mr. Derima said, citing the preliminary 911 information. 

The V.I.P.D. is asking anyone with information about this incident to contact police by calling 911, the Crime TipLine at (340) 778-4950, or anonymously to Crime Stoppers USVI at (800) 222-TIPS.
